TDLR requires approved continuing education before renewal. Choose the course that matches your license history, complete your CE online, then renew directly through TDLR.

Less than 15 years licensed in Texas? Choose 4-hour CE.
15 years or more? Choose 2-hour CE. Hold multiple licenses? Both must meet the 15-year requirement for the 2-hour CE option.
Complete Your CE
Your certificate is available after completion. Keep a copy for two years. You can also verify your completed courses through TDLR’s course lookup.

Frequently asked questions
Which CE Course Do I Need?
If you’ve held your Texas barbering or cosmetology license for fewer than 15 years, you need the 4-Hour CE Course: 1 hour of sanitation, 2 hours of barbering/cosmetology-related topics, and 1 hour of human trafficking prevention.
If you’ve held your Texas license for 15 years or more, you need the 2-Hour CE Course: 1 hour of sanitation and 1 hour of human trafficking prevention.
If you hold both barbering and cosmetology licenses, CE completed for one satisfies the other. To qualify for the 2-hour requirement, both licenses must have been held for 15+ years.
When Are My CE Hours Reported to TDLR?
We report completed courses to TDLR within 24 hours of completion.
TDLR allows CE providers up to seven days to submit completed course reports. My CE Space uses a 24-hour reporting standard so your information is submitted sooner.
Your certificate is available after you successfully complete your course.

Texas requires you to complete the approved continuing education content and required instructional time. TDLR does not require quizzes or exams for Barbering and Cosmetology CE.
